Dear Parents and Guardians,
Apparently, winter will not let go. Tuesday’s all-day snowfall certainly complicated things as we anticipate the start of spring. Thank you for your patience with Wednesday’s delayed opening. Students hit the ground running upon arrival and completed a productive day of learning. Hopefully the warm sun and warmer temperatures will soon help melt the snow and we can say good-bye to winter. Opening day for the Mets and Yankees is less than two weeks away!
Students worked hard last week and tried their best during Terra Nova testing. Thanks for your help in preparing our students for the test and for getting them to school on time. The third and final trimester has begun and we recognized all students in grades 4-8 who achieved first and second honors for the second trimester on Thursday morning. Friday will be a $2 St. Patrick’s Dress Down Day. Wearing of the green is encouraged! We will begin Stations of the Cross on Friday as well at 1:30PM at St. Ann Church. Our award-winning choir, under the direction of Ms. Laurie Campana, will sing at the 10:30 Mass at St. Lawrence Church on Sunday, March 19th. Please join us that day if you are able. On Monday, March 20th, students in grades 3-8 will take part in a Penance Service beginning at 9:00AM, at St. Ann Church. After the service, Fr. Remo and several other priests will hear confessions.
The chicks have all hatched! Our kindergarten students in Ms. Lore and Ms. Gravina’s classes witnessed God’s miracle over the last ten days as two-dozen chicks emerged from their eggs in their incubators and are now huddled and chirping in their respective bins. Students from other grade levels have been invited to see the chicks and everyone is thrilled at the arrival of our new friends. The chicks will leave us to return to the farm on Friday and though we are sad to see them go, we are all excited about the petting farm that we will host in May. Who knows, maybe some of our chicks will return to visit us when the animals arrive that day. Stay tuned!
The STEM Expo will take place on Saturday, March 25th and our three teams will present their projects along with students from more than thirty other Newark Archdiocesan schools. Good luck to the students representing Hoboken Catholic Academy. They are, Nanki Nagpaul, Marianna Vieira, Amelia Gallagher and Juliana Greisbauer, from team MNAJ Scholars, Alice Altomare, Shreya Jagnade, Ethan Suarez and Tara Dean, from team JFE Company, James Jacobi, Joseph Petruzzelli, Joshua Dayo, Viviana Jimenez from team Seaetist and Ryan La Fave, Nicholas Azzopardi, Akshay Sharma, Matthew Fernandez and Aleksander Manda from team Climate Changers. You will recall that there were a number of outstanding projects centered on the United Nations Sustainable Global Initiative presented at our Middle School STEM Fair during Catholic Schools Week. The judges had a very difficult time selecting only three teams to move on to the STEM Expo. I am certain that our school will be well represented at the Expo!
The Spring Gala is just three weeks away and is shaping up to be another special HSA event. Thanks to Mrs. Young and Mrs. Alvez, and everyone who has worked hard to make our Gala successful. The bid items, including some great class baskets and student artwork as well as terrific specialty items for kids, families and adults will all be available at a great venue with incredible views, great food and lots of wonderful people. Parents will be able to show their love and appreciation for our amazing teachers by supporting our Teachers’ Wish List. Your generosity in the past has been nothing less than overwhelming. Thanks for everything you do to thank our teachers and staff. Our Gala is truly the social event of the year! I hope to see you there.
Finally, in the weeks ahead, I will be reaching out to the parents who indicated they would like to be part of our Ad hoc committee to identify and prioritize our building needs and repairs. Thanks in advance to all who have expressed a desire to help.
Lets all think warm thoughts and know that soon winter will be gone. Baseball, leaves and flowers, the miracle of Easter Sunday and the rebirth that spring brings each year are all right around the corner. We have much to celebrate!
God bless you and thanks as always for your kind support.
