Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we prepare for our next Home and School Association event, International Night, I would be remiss if I did not thank everyone who made our annual Poker Night such a huge success. Thanks to event chair, Donna Murphy, Mike Tennaro, Andrea Cuttita, Ali Cornell, Megan LaGattuta and all of our parents who volunteered that night and in preparation for the festivities. Thanks to HCA friends Denise Pascucci for assisting our resident mixologist, Chris Halleron, and Mike Novembre for his culinary expertise! Thank you to our generous sponsors listed here:

As usual, our Texas Hold’ Em Poker Night was a smash hit. Players and non-players alike enjoyed a night of good food and drink, great company and some terrific prizes, all in support of our school. Thanks to all!
Our Campus Ministry students will sponsor a special Dress Down Day on Thursday, February 8th, to support Puerto Rican hurricane relief. As we have indicated previously, we are partnering with Collegio San Jose, a school in San Juan, who will direct the funds we collect to help victims still struggling to put their lives together. Thank you in advance for your generous help.
With the dust barely settled following Poker Night and Catholic Schools’ Week, we are gearing up for International Night. This Friday evening will be a celebration of many of the various cultures represented by our families. The evening will feature great food, festive native clothing and an opportunity to learn about cultures from around the world. Thanks to Grannie Malloy, Lina Lascialfare, Katherine Leung and everyone who has worked in preparation for International Night. I look forward to eating my way around the world!
Parent/Teacher conferences for grades K-8 will take place on Monday, February 12th from 6:00-8:00 PM and from 1:00-3:00 PM on Tuesday, February 13th. There will be a half-day on Tuesday so there will be no afterschool activities, but there will be aftercare.
It is hard to believe, but Ash Wednesday is next week, on February 14th. Students will receive ashes at St. Ann Church following a service at 1:30PM that day to begin the season of Lent. Students will begin praying the Stations of the Cross next Friday. A Penance service is scheduled for Wednesday, March 14th and students will have the opportunity to go to Confession on that day.
School will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, February 19th and 20th in celebration of Presidents’ Day.
Our eighth graders will receive their class rings at our Ring Ceremony Mass on Friday, March 2nd. There will be a half-day that day so our teachers and I can continue our work on the Middle States Accreditation Self Study. Much has been completed thus far and I thank you for your patience as we work toward making our school the best it can be.
A letter from Assistant Superintendent of Schools, Barbara Dolan will be sent home on Monday to parents from grades 2-8 regarding the administration of the Iowa Assessment, the new standardized test to be used by all Archdiocesan schools. The testing will take place from Monday, March 5th to Friday, March 9th.
Pitchers and catchers report to spring training in just one week! The budding trees and warmer weather can’t be too far behind.
God bless you and your families and thank you for your continued, kind support.
