Dear Parents and Guardians,
The annual HCA 5-K Race and student Mile Fun Run and Kid’s Dash will take place on Saturday, June 2nd at Pier A Park. Race co-chairs, Monica De Falco, Katie Maye and Andrea Wright along with committee members, Amber La Gattuta and Shannon Swaitek have secured a number of sponsors and have again organized a fantastic race. Information about the race is on our website and online registrations are being accepted. The HCA pre-race discount deadline has been extended to Friday, May 4th. If you have not signed up already, please take advantage of the discount and sign up by Friday.
Field days are scheduled for Monday, May 7th (PK-Grade 2) and Tuesday, May 8th, (Gr. 3-8). Thank you to everyone who volunteered to help on those days. This year, all students and teachers will wear their “Blue Ribbon School” tee shirts for their respective field day. Thanks again to the Araneo, Peel, Kauffmann and Segalla families for donating the money to purchase the tee shirts!
Please make sure that you provide sunscreen and a refillable water bottle labeled with your child’s name for the day. As always, Nurse De Trizio will be with the students at the field and will have all medications, supplies, and emergency contact information with her. The Hoboken Police will provide an escort to and from the field on both days. The lunch schedules will be adjusted so all students will eat lunch when they return to school.
May 7th will also be the start of Teacher Appreciation Week. Thanks to our outstanding Home and School Association who will host a breakfast for our teachers and staff on Wednesday morning. Wednesday has also been designated as National School Nurse Day! We are indeed blessed with an outstanding teaching staff and a dedicated and caring school nurse. Thanks to all of you who thank and acknowledge our teachers and staff on a continual basis. Your kindness is truly appreciated.
On Thursday, May10th, there will be no school for students. The teachers and I will spend the day at St. Peters University with Fr. Rocco Danzi, Vice President and Chair of the SPU Campus Ministry Program, for a spiritual in-service program, designed to enable teachers and I to better infuse our Catholic faith into all of our teachings and interactions.
Friday, May 11th will be a busy day. Our Pre-K students will travel to Space Farms for their field trip and our seventh graders will head down to Philadelphia for theirs. Our eighth graders will take part in their graduation retreat at the Newark Archdiocesan Youth Retreat Center in Kearny. Later that evening, HCA will host the annual Hoboken Rotary Fourth Grade Spelling Bee, named in honor former HCA student and our special angel, Christopher Widjaja. That program will begin at 6:30 and will include fourth graders from all of Hoboken’s elementary schools.
Second graders will travel to Brooklyn to “Construction Kids,” for their field trip on Monday, May 14th and our kindergarten students will visit “Imagine That,” an interactive children’s museum in Florham Park, on Friday, May 18th. On Wednesday, May 16th our eighth graders will leave for their three day class trip to Washington DC. We will return late on Friday evening.
Following a nap over the weekend, we will hit the ground running the following week as well when our friends from Quiver Farms will bring their traveling farm to our courtyard on Tuesday, May 22nd. Later that evening, our Campus Ministry students will host the annual, “HCA Senior Prom.” This special dinner dance will include our Campus Ministry student’s grand parents and eighth grade parents totaling more than 100 guests! Thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Di Giacomo, owners of Frankie and Ava's Italian Eatery and Joyce and Eugene Flinn, from Elysian Café and Schnackenberg’s Luncheonette, for supplying much of the food and Ms. Girovasi and Mrs. Peterson for coordinating the event.
Our Spring Concert will feature our amazing choir, under the direction of Ms. Laurie Campana, and three students from our new instrumental program, under the direction of Ms. Melissa Kay, will perform as well. The concert will take place on the original date, Wednesday, May 23rd at 7:00PM.
Our May Crowning Mass, featuring our second graders, will take place as originally scheduled on Thursday, May 24th at 10:00AM in St. Ann Church.
Friday, May 25th, will be the “Maxime Tellier Dress Down Day!” We will announce the theme, as the day gets closer.
School will be closed on Memorial Day, Monday, May 28th.
Our sixth, seventh and eighth grade students will take their final exams from Wednesday, May 30th through Friday, June 1st. Eighth graders will come back to the gym on Friday evening, June 1st, to join with seventh graders for their Graduation Dance.
Mrs. Albunia will display our incredible student artwork at our Art Show in the gym on Tuesday, June 5th from 6:00 to 8:00PM.
The Sports Assembly will take place on Wednesday morning, June 6th at 9:30 and later that night we will have our last Home and School Association meeting for the year. There will be no babysitting provided that night and the meeting will include our Volunteer Thank You Social!
The final Honor Roll Assembly will take place on Thursday morning, June 7th and our eighth grade students and their families will join our student body at the Eighth Grade Baccalaureate Mass at 10:00 Friday morning, June 8th at St. Ann Church. Eighth grade parents will come back to the gym as the entire HCA school family says good-bye to our graduates as they exit our school for the last time. The graduation ceremony will take place on Saturday morning at 10:00, again at St. Ann Church.
Under the direction of Mr. Bartoli, a group of his colleagues from Deloitte and Touche will be on hand on Friday, June 8th to volunteer at HCA on their annual “Impact Day”. Our friends from Deloitte will paint some of our building’s exterior and help clean and organize our HSA room and stage area.
Pre-K and Kindergarten class parties will take place on Tuesday, June 12th and their moving up ceremonies and last day will take place on Wednesday, June 13th. Grades 1-7 will have their end of year parties in the afternoon of the 13th as well. There will be half days for students in grades 1-7 on Thursday, June 14th, Friday, June 15th and the new last day of school, Monday, June 18th. Parents are reminded that report cards will be distributed on Friday, June 15th.
On June 20th, after the children are gone for the summer, we will welcome Pre-K mom Dipti Reddy and some of her Goldman Sachs colleagues for their Volunteer Team Works Day. Like our friends from Delloite, Ms. Reddy and her colleagues wil not only paint all of our gym and hallway doors, but they will supply the paint and paint supplies. In addition, on the 20th and 21st a number of our teachers will participate in IPad training in preparation for the 2018-2019 school year. The in-service program will be presented by our colleagues at William Paterson University.
As you can see, the last seven weeks of school will be quite busy. The days will pass by very quickly as the school year's end draws closer. So, I would like to take a moment now to thank everyone who makes HCA the wonderful place for children, I believe it to be. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to chaperone class trips, run or help with our fundraising events, served as an HSA officer, committee chair, or class mom. Thanks to everyone who has taken part in the facilities or security Ad hoc committees, or contributed in any way to our school. Most importantly, however, thank you all for being caring, supportive parents who entrust Hoboken Catholic Academy with your children’s care and education. Please know that we take that responsibility very seriously and know that we are all truly blessed.
I’m sure there will be another letter or two before school ends, so for now, take care, God bless you, and thanks again.
