Dear Parents and Guardians,

October is an exciting month at Hoboken Catholic Academy.  We participated in the Hoboken Family Alliance All Schools Open House on the 9th at Hoboken High School.  Thanks to Donna Murphy, Cara Guerra, Darshini Rajmohan, Mike Nolan and Dawn Fallon for helping to spread the word about our school and our upcoming Open Houses to prospective parents.

Students in grades 2-8 participated in the Living Rosary at St. Ann Church on the 10th.   On the 11th, there were two assembly programs in which the presenter, Ken Northridge, from Dovetail Productions, utilized magic to deliver the important messages of respectful behavior, anti-bullying and character.

The eleventh annual HCA Golf Outing was a huge success!  With over one hundred golfers, an outstanding venue, cooperative weather conditions, and tremendous sponsorship, the golf outing committee put together a truly spectacular event!  Thanks to committee chairs, John Araneo, Todd Kauffmann and Jennifer Araneo, committee members, Scott Lagattuta, Eric Peel, Frank Cuttita, Mike Gallucci, Brian Maye, Rich Ujhely, Mike Guerra and Jason Swiatek as well as all of the parent volunteers, sponsors and golfers for making this year’s event so great.  The final numbers are still being calculated and will be announced at the next Home and School Association meeting.

Parent teacher conferences are scheduled for Tuesday, October 23rd from 6:00-8:30PM and on Wednesday, October 24th from 1:00-3:00PM.  There will be a half- day of school on the 24th and aftercare will be available until 6:00PM.  Later that evening, our 5th through eighth grade students will take part in the Student Council sponsored Halloween Dance!

There will be no school for students on the 25th while the teachers participate in workshops along with teachers from the other Hudson County Catholic elementary schools at the Archdiocesan Youth Retreat Center in Kearny.

On Friday and Saturday, the 26th and 27th we will host our annual Open Houses for parents looking to have their children join HCA in September, 2019.  Thanks to Donna Murphy for securing parent volunteers for both days and thanks in advance to all of our parent volunteers and our amazing students who will give our prospective parents a tour of the school.

The re-registration packets for returning students went out last week and I ask that you pay close attention to the timeline for registration.  The re-registration period will end on November 20th.  Any student who is not re-registered on or before that date will loose his or her placement for the 2019-2020 school year.  Also, parishioner letters must be received on or before November 20th for a child in grades 1-8 to receive the parishioner rate.  Please know that it is important to give the staff at the respective rectories time to process the letters, so please contact your parish office early in the re-registration timeline.

The Halloween parades and parties are planned and are awaiting our super heroes, firefighters, princesses and the rest to appear on the 31st.  Pre-K and K will step off at 9:00 in the gym and the parade for grades 1-5 will be at 10:00.  The doors will open at 8:45 and 9:45 respectively.  All parents who will attend both parades will be asked to step outside at the conclusion of the first parade so we can reset the gym.  Thanks in advance to all of the class moms for their help in putting the class parties together.  Pre-K and kindergarten will have their parties in the morning at the times designated by the teachers and the rest of the classes will have their parties at 1:30, after the last lunch period.  By about 3:15 the teachers will need a nap!

Thursday, November 1st is a Holy Day of Obligation, All Saints Day, and students will attend mass at 10:00 at St. Ann Church that day. There will be no First Friday Mass on the 2nd.

With the onset of the colder weather, effective immediately, students are to wear their winter uniforms.  The uniform shorts will have to be put away until the spring. Also, to prepare for the possibility of school closings, we will conduct a Honeywell Alert system test on Monday, October 29th at 6:00PM.  Any parent who has not registered or updated their contact information on the Honeywell system must do so to receive the alert.

Thank you as always for your support and for sharing your wonderful children with us each day.  God bless you all.

Sincerely,
Matthew McGrath
Principal
