WELCOME TO MIDDLE SCHOOL SCIENCE
WITH MR. TAORMINA
“To educate children, you must first love them and love them equally.” St. Marcellin Champagnat (Founder of the Marist Brothers)
Hello! My name is Mr. John A. Taormina and I am so thrilled to be teaching middle school science for the 3rd year at Hoboken Catholic Academy! I am very proud to be a team member of a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. I will continue to work diligently with your child to offer a science experience that moves beyond the traditional book and chalkboard methods into a learning adventure that is more thought provoking, fun, interactive, technology infused and project based. Science is not simply a memorization of facts to regurgitate back to the teacher. Science, when taught correctly, will allow students to problem solve using higher order thinking skills. Popular topics of study such as STEM is not an isolated entity or subject, rather, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics is a way of thinking that should be used everyday across the curriculum to create solutions and solve difficulties that students will face in the future.
I believe in Catholic education and in the mission of Hoboken Catholic Academy. I earned my Bachelor's Degree from Bloomfield College, and my Master's Degree from St. Peter's University. I earned 6 post graduate credits in guidance counseling from Seton Hall University. I have devoted my entire 22 year career to Catholic education. In addition to being a teacher, I have also held positions as principal, and director of admissions and advancement for Marist High School. But, it is in classroom teaching that God has called me to do his work for our young people. It's very important for the teacher, parent/guardian and student to have a communication that is open and respectful. If at any time you feel the need to speak to me about your son or daughter, please feel comfortable in doing so. I will do the same on my end. You may reach me by email at firstname.lastname@example.org, or private message me through edmodo.com. I check edmodo periodically 7 days a week until 9:00 pm.
Thank you for trusting your children to my class and to our great school!
Mr. John A. Taormina
